Will-O-Wisp (WOW) is a Covenant Controlled Community located off Highway 285 (near mile marker 228) in beautiful Bailey, Colorado.  We are 1 mile past Pine Junction - Rt 285 & Rt 126 (Mt. Evans Blvd.)  We are in the foothills at approx 8400 Ft above Sea Level.

A tight knit community of 116 homes, Will-O-Wisp offers an incredible way of life, both for the single and adventurous, as well as for families. 

With numerous community recreational choices including over 200 acres of recreational space for riding and hiking, volleyball, catch-and-release fishing and ice skating.   Adults and children of all ages enjoy what Will-O-Wisp has to offer!

Additionally, with an easy 30 minute commute (approx 24 miles) to metro Denver, Will-O-Wisp makes driving home feel like a vacation each and every day.

Repair and Paving of Will-O-Wisp Roads - Update

 

The Roads are almost completed.  As of 8/29/10, Wisp Creek has had the pot holes patched and the first layer of chip seal put down.  The current plans are to oil the surface, and put down another finish coat of chip seal and then oil and "fog" coat the road to seal it from the weather.   The side roads, will be patched and a final layer of chip seal, oil and fog coat will also be applied.  Thanks to our Park County Commissioners and Road and Bridges who are working hard to get our roads done.

 

Please read the attached and pay special attention to your culverts and make sure they are clear.

A Green Community!

Will-O-Wisp is one of the few "Green Communities" in the mountains.  Since the mid 80's, here is how we strive to make our environment better:

Water:
In the face of our consistent need for clean water amid changing environmental conditions, communities today are focusing on innovative conservation and purification technologies.  Through our Waste Water Treatment Plant and our Water Conservation, Will-O-Wisp returns approx 95% of the water taken out of our wells, and returns it back into our environment.

Land Conservation:
Preventing sprawl saves larger streaches of land, which in turn preserves green space in a community.  By increasing density, a community reduces the threat of traffic and human encroachment on local ecosystems.  Will-O-Wisp has approximately 200 acres of open space, trails for walking, hiking, biking, along with fishing, ice skating, etc. 

 

Recycling:
Will-O-Wisp encourges recycling, Mountain View Waste  (303) 838-0560 provides recycling and trash collection for Will-O-Wisp. Also remember that all WOW residents that use Mountain View Waste weekly trash service are entitled to drop off two truck loads of trash  per year for free at the Transfer Station on Rt 285.  Just check-in at the office, and show your drivers license or proof of address.

Water Conservation:
Please check all of your faucets and toilets:
A dripping faucet wastes 24 Gallons of Water per Day!
A running toilet wastes 230 Gallons of Water per Day!

Fresh Water is Scarce
Most of the Earth's water is saltwater (97.5%) with much of the remaining freshwater frozen in polar ice or otherwise inaccessible to us. In fact, humans and all other life that requires freshwater must share less than 0.5% of the water on Earth. That's only about the size of this marble in comparison to the size of the Earth.   Source: U.S. Bureau of Reclamation

Bottled Water
It takes approx 6 liters of water to make 1 liter of bottled water.  Bottled water costs approx 1,000 times more then tap water, it takes about 72 billion gallons of water a year, worldwide just to make the empty bottles. 

You may actually be drinking tap water
Dasani, a Coca-Cola product. Despite its exotic-sounding name, Dasani is simply purified tap water that’s had minerals added back in. For example, if your Dasani water was bottled at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Denver, you’re drinking Denver tap water. But that's not the only brand of water that relies on city pipes to provide its product. About 25 percent of all bottled water is taken from municipal water sources, including Pepsi’s Aquafina.  The Will-O-Wisp Metro District has some of the best water in Colorado. We meet or exceed all State and Federal requirements for drinking water.  Our water is constantly being tested for purity, etc. The latest Will-O-Wisp Metro District Drinking Water Consumer Confidence Report can be found under District Business.

Our Recommendation:  Fill your reusable water bottles with tap water.

Energy rebates available April 19!

On April 19, 75,000 rebates from the Governor’s Energy Office (GEO) will be launched for an estimated 22 million dollars in savings, a portion of which is earmarked for rural communities including Park County. 

The launch will include a comprehensive GEO website and call center, as well as a local helpdesk sponsored by the High Country Conservation Center(HCCC), which is working with the GEO to advise communities on incentives.

Rebates for Energy Star appliances include clothes washers, dishwashers, refrigerators, gas condensing furnaces, hot water heaters and gas boilers.

Residential energy efficiency rebates include insulation and air sealing, duct sealing, whole-house energy monitoring and whole-house energy audits.

Noxious Weed Information

We have information regarding noxious weeds for you to review. These weeds are taking over many parts of Park County, and while some of them look like flowers, they are very destructive, displacing natural plants, driving away wildlife, increasing soil erosion, etc. Please review the information and if you have any of these in your yard, we would appreciate if you remove them. We are currently planning to do some spot spraying in the open space, but we would appreciate your help in reducing the number of weeds and also our costs.
